What is a Poly Tarp made of?
A polypropylene tarp ("Poly Tarp") is not a traditional fabric, but rather, a laminate of woven and sheet material. The center is loosely woven from strips of polypropylene plastic, with sheets of the same material bonded to the surface. This creates a fabric-like material that resists stretching well in all directions and is waterproof. When treated against ultraviolet light, these tarpaulins can last for years exposed to the elements, but non-UV treated material will quickly become brittle and lose strength and water resistance if exposed to sunlight. Most import Poly tarps are non-UV treated.
What are Poly Tarps commonly used for?
Poly Tarps are commonly used for equipment covers, job site protection, firewood covers, camping, landscaping, temporary shelters, pool covers, and general outdoor storage. They are ideal when you need reliable protection at an economical price.

Yes. Poly Tarps from Tarps Now are 100% waterproof, helping protect against rain, snow, and moisture when properly secured.
How durable are Poly Tarps?
Poly tarps are designed for light to heavy duty use. Heavier duty Poly Tarps with higher thickness and weave count offer increased durability, while lighter options are best for short-term or seasonal applications and super easy handling.
Can Poly Tarps be used year-round?
Poly Tarps can be used year-round for short-term or seasonal coverage, but extreme cold, prolonged UV exposure, or high winds may reduce lifespan compared to heavier materials like vinyl.
Are Poly Tarps good for camping and outdoor recreation?
Absolutely. Poly Tarps are popular for camping ground covers, rain flies, gear protection, and emergency shelters due to their lightweight design and easy portability.
What size Poly Tarp should I choose?
Choose a size that allows for adequate overlap and secure tie-down. Actual Poly Tarp sizes are typically slightly smaller due to their cut size classification and manufacturing process, so going up to the next size is often recommended.
