
As you look around and do your research on tarps your first question may be, How Strong is a Tarp? It is as strong as you need it to be. Although many tarp products are extremely versatile, with capabilities of providing a lot of protection in different ways. At the same time, many Tarpaulins (the formal word for tarps) are categorized for specific duties. Each of these styles of covers are designed to perform, be as strong as possible for the dedicated task.
Using a certain Tarp for the wrong function and it may not perform as well as you would like. Just to reiterate, some tarps are general purpose and do a little of everything well, while many are specialists strong in what they do.
Heavy Duty Tarps
The bulk of the Tarps that Tarps Now offers are considered Heavy Duty and Super Heavy Duty Tarps. These are designed and constructed to withstand the rigors of the weather and other hazards to protect the possessions they are guarding. The strength of the material is in part measured by the Thickness in Mils and the material weight usually designated by ounces per square yard. Heavy Duty Tarp material includes canvas, vinyl, and polyethylene (poly).
Other Tarps that are rather lightweight as a product and made of thinner woven material and are also considered Heavy Duty, these are Mesh Tarps and Shade Tarps. They are more specific in their duties blocking the sun, wind, and even some views.

Strong Does Not Mean Heavy Lifting, Except for These
Most of the Tarps Now tarps are not intended for heavy lifting. The strength is in the material construction and the protection that they deliver in providing an ideal covering. Tarps can be good for moving things such as grass clippings or branches, just hot heavy heavy stuff. On the other hand, there are two types that are designed for lifting. This includes Snow Tarps for lifting freshly fallen snow along with Debris Lifting Tarps for picking up debris, tools, and supplies. Both of these are most often used around construction sites where a crane is necessary to operate these Lifting Tarps.
